Water Under the Ridge

THERE'S SOMETHING FISHY GOING ON IN HIGHLAND...

Highland was almost entirely under water before it was first settled in 1848. Only a high sand ridge stood above the water. People referred to this area as Highlands.

This summer the residents and businesses of Highland joined together to create a community mural. The fish in this mural are as varied and unique as the people who created them. Artistic anglers gave their talents to the project simply for the enjoyment of all who pass through. This artistic display of community pride will stand as a reminder of what was once just water under the ridge.

The unveiling drew a very excited crowd.

Shutterbugs angled for the perfect photo.
All eyes were focused upward to survey the 261 fish.

As the crowd thinned, Highland residents and neighbors had a chance to chat.
